The Spot Redesign

Help us reimagine "The Spot"!

Project Overview

The City of Hyattsville contracted Neighborhood Design Center (NDC) to engage the community and create a conceptual redesign of The Spot, based on input gathered from community members.

Building on concept ideas and community priorities, the City contracted with Bradley Site Design to develop the design and shepherd the project through permitting. Permits were obtained in Spring of 2026 and construction will begin after Trolley Trail Day (June 13, 2026).

The Spot

The Spot comprises 3 parcels at 4503, 4505, and 4508 Hamilton Street, owned by the City of Hyattsville. Prior to the City's acquisition of the properties, there were small automotive repair shops located on the site. The buildings have been demolished and since 2021 the site has served as a community gathering place, programmed and furnished by the SoHy Coop through a Special Use Agreement with the City. The Trolley Trail, a multi-use path that connects College Park, Riverdale Park, and Hyattsville, runs parallel to the west side of The Spot. The Trolley Trail will soon connect the City to points further south with the completion of the ongoing extension from its current terminus at Farragut Street down to the Charles Armentrout Drive and the Northwest Branch Trail.

An opportunity exists to create a community gathering space that supports residents, trail users, local businesses, and visitors.
