Race & Equity Plan
The Hyattsville Race and Equity Task Force (RETF) is a resident led committee that was established in 2018 by the Mayor and City Council to develop an ‘equity plan’ for the City of Hyattsville (CoH). The plan was intended to include policy and operational recommendations that advance equitable management of City administration, public services, and community development; and those that would further support residents’ economic mobility and the City’s goal to maintain an inclusive, diverse community.
In 2019 the RETF developed a draft Equity Plan, using a series of meetings, surveys, and community engagements to identify the top five issues facing low- to moderate-income families and individuals living in the City of Hyattsville. These issues are :
● Community Engagement
● Community Safety and Policing
● Housing
● Jobs, Economic Prosperity and Transportation
● Accessibility for People with Disabilities and Aging Populations
The RETF cataloged the City’s assets, gaps, and barriers in these issue areas and proposed recommendations to promote equity and preserve diversity as Hyattsville experiences rapid growth and change. An updated Draft Equity Plan was drafted in 2024 as a continuation of that work.
Race and Equity Taskforce meetings are generally held virtually on Zoom the third Thursday of each month. For more information and to stay engaged with this process visit Race and Social Equity | Hyattsville, MD - Official Website or email Equity@Hyattsville.org.
Phases
Hyattsville Equity Plan Resident Feedback Survey
Racial equity is a process of eliminating racial disparities and improving outcomes for everyone. The Hyattsville Equity Plan is intended to be a guide for ways the city can work toward greater equity, inclusion, and a better quality of life for all residents.
The survey consists of 12 questions intended to gather resident’s ideas for a vision for equity in the city, as well as feedback on how the draft equity plan reflects their values and priorities.
This survey should take 7-10 mins to complete and is available in English and Spanish.
