Gallatin Street Traffic Calming Measures
The City of Hyattsville is evaluating traffic calming measures for the 3500 - 3700 blocks of Gallatin Street. Community members along that street petitioned the City for a review of traffic controls in order to reduce speeding and running stop signs through this residential area.
The proposed traffic calming plan was shared with community members at a public meeting on August 27, 2022. Based on community feedback, the final plan was shared at a community meeting on May 25.

Phases

Construction will start in the Winter of 2024.
Work will take place on the following streets:
- 36th Avenue, from Gallatin to Farragut
- 36th Place, from Gallatin to Farragut
- 37th Avenue, from Gallatin to Farragut
- Farragut Street, from 37th Avenue to Dead End
- Gallatin Street, from 35th Place to 37th Place
- Gaines Alley, from 37th Place to 38th Avenue
- Alley, from 37th Place to 38th Avenue
All work will be done in the public right-of-way and includes the following phases:
- Replacing curbs, sidewalks, and driveway aprons
- Base repairing existing roadway
- Milling of existing surface
- Asphalt resurfacing
- Traffic calming
When needed, temporary “No Parking” signs will be placed at least 48 hours in advance.
