Proposed solutions

As a driver, I hope I never encounter a chicane. That looks like pure hell.

As a cyclist, I hope Hyattsville prioritizes protected bike lanes rather than street-sharing. I bought my bike when I lived in the District and had a 2-mile walk to work; but then didnt use it to commute because drivers are so frightening. Today, thanks to protected cylce lanes, I am comfortable commuting to my downtown office (now a 12-mile trek).

Yes, more -- and better -- crossing islands and high-visibilty crosswalks, please. This is especially needed at multiple intersections of MD-500.

Finally, a specific location: the crossing from the Northwest Branch Trail at Queens Chapel Rd is extremely dangerous and neefs added scrutiny from law enforcement and a better solution for all users. Many, many, many times I have seen near-miss injuries or fatalities; sometimes it's because one driver may stop, while a driver in the second lane doesn't. The intersection is dangerous for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians-- stopping for a crosser is optional, but shouldn't be -- and while I recognize neither Trail nor roadway are in the City's control, it's City residents who use them most, and need our City to use any means available to achieve a better resolution.

This, as much as any spot I can think of in our City, demands attention and a safer solution.
