Contraflow Bike Lanes
From "Multimodal Toolkit"
Go to the project
Presenting contraflow lanes in this toolkit might be worthwhile for the city's residents. Biking to Route 1 can be rather difficult due to rather steep hills. One-way streets with this layout can maintain most resident parking + reduce stress from having cars following behind (like with sharrows). They can work well in uphill, low-traffic environments, provided the width is available.

This is a good idea! Hyattsville's 2010 & 2018 Transportation Plans/Studies both recommended converting certain one-way streets to two-way. Adding contraflow bike lanes could be a good interim or alternative solution, especially since there's been mixed reaction to and no progress on the recommendations for one-way conversions. Contraflow bike lanes would make bike trips, especially to places downtown, less cumbersome and circuitous. It could also help narrow and calm some wide, currently one-way streets.
